As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll be the technical presence where our products meet the real world. That means demos and events, pre-sales support, field testing and discovery with users, and helping customers get our systems working well in their environments. You’ll move between internal teams and external stakeholders fluidly, and you’ll often be the person who has to make something work in a context that wasn’t fully anticipated. The role sits at the edge of product, sales, and engineering, and the value you create there depends on being credible in all three.
What you’ll do
Field testing and product validation
- Deploy into the field in an embedded capacity, alongside Product, Programs, and country teams, to validate designs and experiences in real operating conditions
- Surface findings clearly and feed them back into the product development process
- Serve as a reliable signal from the field on what is and isn’t working in practice
Demonstrations and events
- Plan and deliver technical product demonstrations at customer sites, trade events, and internal showcases
- Prepare and maintain demonstration environments, hardware, and supporting materials to a reliable, repeatable standard
- Represent the product and the team credibly under the variable conditions that come with live events
Pre-sales engineering support
- Work alongside Program and commercial teams to support technical pre-sales engagements
- Understand customer requirements and help frame how our products and capabilities address them
- Contribute to proposals, technical documentation, and solution scoping where a hands-on engineering perspective is needed
Customer enablement
- Help customers understand how to deploy, configure, and operate our systems effectively
- Support onboarding and early operational use, and identify where customers are likely to encounter difficulty
- Develop guides, reference materials, and hands-on support resources where they accelerate customer success
Small solutions and adaptations
- Develop one-off and small-scale solutions built from our product portfolio to address specific customer needs
- Work within the constraints of existing systems to extend or adapt capabilities without creating unsustainable technical debt
- Know when a customer request is a reasonable adaptation and when it needs to be escalated to the core product team
You should apply if you
- Are equally comfortable in front of a customer and under the hood of a technical system
- Have experience deploying or operating complex technical products in field or operational environments
- Can take an incompletely defined problem and make progress on it without waiting for full specification
- Communicate well in writing and in person, with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Have experience building and deploying production software or hardware systems
You’d be a great fit with
- Background in defence, industrial, emergency services, or other operational customer environments
- Experience in a pre-sales, solutions engineering, or field engineering capacity
- Familiarity with autonomous systems, sensing, or robotics products
- Comfort with software development and hardware hacking for integration and adaptation work
